Hahah - yes, surprisingly. Published in the late '30's in Paris; Not published in the US until 1961 which then sparked lawsuits until the Supreme Court declared it non-obscene in 1964 !!

By today's standards - literature, film, the internet - probably quite a tame read all in all.

Of course now I'm interested in reading what is considered to be 'an important masterpiece' of 20th century literature. My fear is that it will disappoint like Madame Bovary.
