Lies I've told my 3 year old recently

Trees talk to each other at night.
All fish are named either Lorna or Jack.
Before your eyeballs fall out from watching too much TV, they get very loose.
Tiny bears live in drain pipes.
If you are very very quiet you can hear the clouds rub against the sky.
The moon and the sun had a fight a long time ago.
Everyone knows at least one secret language.
When nobody is looking, I can fly.
We are all held together by invisible threads.
Books get lonely too.
Sadness can be eaten.
I will always be there.

Fish talk to each other at night using bubbles.

I thought they were all true. Please don't burst the bubble in which I dwell!

I dunno. I'd like to think that last one isn't a lie. I think you are always with your child...no matter what. Even when you can't be there in person...

The last line is indeed sobering.

I believe them, too, Adullamite. I know trees talk when we aren't around. And I am SURE I have seen furry beings in my sink and shower drains. Glad to know they are only tiny bears!

Fish definitely talk in bubbles! I can talk in bubbles too, underwater.

No bubble bursting here, Lee. This is a free-thinking blog.

I know Lin. I don't like the last line either. However, I know that there have been times when I've let my children down and not 'come through' for them. It's all logged in on my internal 'mommy guilt' page. It happens. And conversely, I will always be there for them, no matter what !! So the last line isn't quite so ... stark. I'm always there but maybe not always present in the way my children need. That line expresses this dichotomy of parenting to me.

Me? I like the last line. Without it, its just a Frank Zappa song. With it...well....I better go hug me some kids.

Hi Juliette. I think my sadness would taste bitter - like the pith of a lemon. Yuck.

Hi Cowboy .... I read it out loud to my youngest. He thought it was random.... until I read the TITLE of the poem to him.

So yes, the last line gets you but the title of the poem sets the stage.

Give them an extra hug from rdg (especially that water baby of yours)
